Coldplay’s Chris Martin filled in for Zane Lowe on the BBC on Thursday January 17th, and gave listeners a diverse playlist.
Martin opened his two hour show with Jay-Z’s ‘Kingdom Come’. It was an interesting choice considering that he was a guest on Jay-Z’s album, but stayed away from playing his featured track ‘Beach Chair’
Chris played new music via Bloc Party and Hot Chip and through in a few classics such as Bowie’s ‘Ashes To Ashes’ and Talking Heads ‘Once In A Lifetime’.
One of the more interesting ‘oldies’ to make the Martin playlist was the Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue duet ‘Where The Wild Roses Go’.

The guys from Coldplay are expected to release a new studio album sooner than expected, after a series of productive sessions in the recording studio recently.
The band had asked fans to be patient while they worked on new material for their fourth album. But it seems a new Coldplay record could be with us in the not-to-distant future afterall.
“There’s no-one more surprised than the band. They genuinely did intend to take these sessions at a very leisurely pace,” a source told the Daily Star. “However, they went better than anyone could possibly have hoped for and a vast amount of material is already in the can.”

Scottish rockers Travis are heavily responsible for influencing Coldplay and bringing their music to the masses worldwide.
Chris Martin, while DJing for British BBC Radio 1 last night, had this to say: “We’re gonna finish with an incredible exclusive, we’re very privileged to play it, it’s a new song by the band Travis, the band that invented my band and lots of others.”
Travis are set to release their first studio album of new material since The Invisible Band in 2001. Travis lead singer Fran Healy was quoted by ContactMusic.com: I thought it was going to get played on Saturday. I checked the Radio 1 website a few days ago and I’m sure it said Chris was on (Saturday) but what a nice surprise. “

Coldplay’s Chris Martin is to appear on Kanye West’s third album, titled ‘Graduation’, and scheduled to drop at the back end of 2007.
He duets with West on the track ‘Homecoming’, which is set to be the first single to be released off the album according to West.
The British singer/songwriter continues to branch out after collaborating with Jay-Z on his latest album, and Nelly in recent times (with Nelly Furtado).

Pop star Justin Timberlake motivates himself to go onstage and perform in concert by listening to the British band Coldplay.
The My Love singer is getting ready to tour again to promote his latest album and says he has specific pre-show rituals he likes to follow.
He explains, “I still get excited to go on stage. I stretch so I don’t hurt myself.
“I had a rule on my last tour that I couldn’t go until I heard the song Clocks by Coldplay.
“You know the house music they play before the artist goes on stage?
“It turned into a superstition because after I heard that song I felt like it would be a good show, so we could go on!”

Bloc Party have drawn a comparison between the material on their new album, and that written by Coldplay in terms of accessibility.
Lead singer Kele Okereke has said that he purposefully tried to write lyrics that were more direct than those featured on the band’s debut album Silent Alarm.
He told Billboard, “I wanted to make something that could be more easily understood, without dumbing it down.”
Bassist Gordon Noakes likened the title track from their new album A Weekend In The City to a Coldplay song.
He said, “It’s got everything that makes a Coldplay song, plus more. It has a lush sound without being too syrupy.”

A series of special guest presenters have been standing in for Zane Lowe on his BBC Radio 1 show this month. Guest presenters are hosting the programme while Zane is on leave, culminating in Coldplay’s lead singer Chris Martin fronting the show on 18 January 2007.
