Timbaland Wants Coldplay Gig

In-vogue American hip hop and R&B producer Timabaland would like to work with British alternative band Coldplay, and the chart toppers are reportedly giving it serious consideration.

”It would give me a new energy; it would take me to a whole other place,” Timbaland told Entertainment Weekly on Tuesday. ”[Coldplay] are so talented, it would help me as a person. Working with them would be great. It’s about the music — not clothes or jewelry, just pure passion for music.”

EW report that Monique Idlett, who handles publicity for Timbaland’s Mosley Music Group, told them Timbaland is planning to meet up with the band in April to discuss their plans for their follow-up to their 2005 triple-platinum selling album X&Y.

Last month, Timbaland told Billboard.biz that the band was high on his hypothetical list of future musical partners. ”It takes a lot to really excite me,” he said then. ”But I am excited about Coldplay.”

The band have already retained the services of Brian Eno to co-produce their next album, he has worked with U2 and Talking Heads among others.

Chris Martin has sung on a Timbaland-produced track (All Good Things) on Nelly Furtado’s Album loose. And he’s also worked with rap legend Jay-Z, providing vocals for a track off his latest album Kingdom Come; Martin is working with Kanye West on a track that is destined to be the first single off his next album later this year. So it’s clear there’s plenty of mileage in these rumours. However, represenatives for Coldplay are so far refusing to confirm or deny the reports.
