Bloc Party draw Coldplay comparison

Bloc Party have drawn a comparison between the material on their new album, and that written by Coldplay in terms of accessibility.

Lead singer Kele Okereke has said that he purposefully tried to write lyrics that were more direct than those featured on the band’s debut album Silent Alarm.

He told Billboard, “I wanted to make something that could be more easily understood, without dumbing it down.”

Bassist Gordon Noakes likened the title track from their new album A Weekend In The City to a Coldplay song.

He said, “It’s got everything that makes a Coldplay song, plus more. It has a lush sound without being too syrupy.”
