Cuba’s Buena Vista Social Club recruited some impressive international members for their Rhythms Del Mundo album that hits stores on November 14.

U2, Radiohead, Jack Johnson, Arctic Monkeys, Maroon 5, Coldplay and the Kaiser Chiefs are among those who lent their songs to the group to interpret.

The late Cuban singer Ibrahim Ferrer is also featured on two songs. Ferrer had been a longstanding member of the Cuban music scene, and was also featured in the Gorillaz song “Latin Simone” on their 2001 self-titled album.

The idea for the album came about following 2004’s tsunami in Asia, and was put together to raise support for Artists Project Earth. The organization is dedicated to reducing worldwide greenhouse gas emissions and promoting climate change awareness and natural disaster relief.

Buena Vista Social Club was originally a members-only music club in Havana. The name was used as the title of a 1997 album featuring top Cuban singers and musicians with American guitarist Ry Cooder. A Wim Wenders-directed documentary on the musicians was nominated for an Academy Award in 2000.
